Eladrin of Sarifal
This appendix gives you an overview of the culture of the eladrin kingdom of Sarifal.
Appearance
The eladrin are the predominant faerie present in Sarifal. They appear as tall, beautiful elf-like beings with elongated ears. They associate with the different seasons and take a form to match.
Infused with Faerie
Primal Not Divine. The eladrin of Sarifal don’t worship the Seldarine and have little affinity to Arvandor. They don’t long to end their cycle of rebirth and rejoin Corellon. Rather, they believe that they meld with the Feywild when they reincarnate and that they will eventually rise to become an archfey through a series of millennia-long incarnations.
Eladrin and the Elves. Most eladrin of Sarifal trade haughtiness for kindness toward their elf cousins, knowing that many elves have never felt the ecstasies of life amid the fey. They don’t even view the drow with distaste, as the eladrin aren’t beholden to the Seldarine.
Society Structure
Sarifal is bound together through blood, respect, and might born of millenia.
Ruled by Immortals. Sarifal is ruled by the leShay. Powerful, enigmatic, they are the greatest of the primal elves, just one step below the spirits that became the Seldarine. The eladrin defer to the rulership of the leShay and the mood and traits of these powerful creatures influences the eladrin.
A Varied Feyland. The fey denizens of Sarfial are many and varied. Most populous being the countless varieties of faeries, pixies, sprites, and other diminutive fey. In spite of that, the eladrin dominate the realm through their strength, wisdom, and magical might. The other fey defer to them.
Cultural Traits
Creatures of Passion. Eladrin are ruled by their emotions. No one loves or falls out of love more passionately. They feel sorrow and grief to their very core. They are moved to tears by a piece of art. They especially love beauty and seek to surround themselves at all times.
Fickle and Vain. Eladrin are known for their fickleness. Many of them will change their minds on the spur of the moment without giving reasons. They are very susceptible to flattery and adulation, especially if it’s done artfully.
Shifting but Never Changing. Eladrin are tied to the Feywild, which is a land of potential, of stories, and what could be. Existing outside of time, change is difficult in the Feywild, and the fey dwell in their cyclical stories for eternity. Death is impossible there because anything that dies is reincarnated anew.
To change, the eladrin must make traverse to the Passing World (what they call the Material Plane). Only in the Material Plane, can the eladrin die or make true, lasting change.
Exposure to the Passing World has a price, as it weakens the immortality of the eladrin. The longer they remain in contact with the Material Plane, the more time affects them. Too much exposure and they will find themselves mortal.
Free Yet Bound
The eladrin of Sarifal are a chaotic people, but they intensely cling to a number of traditions.
Gift for a Gift. The eladrin are very mindful of gifts. When a gift is given, it must be recognized and reciprocated with another gift of equal value. To refuse a gift may greatly insult a fey. Furthermore, you can accept a gift unknowingly or without the intention to accept.
Promises Are Kept. While capricious, eladrin keep their promises once given. Promises are very important to the fey, and they always keep their promises – no matter how awful and far-reaching the consequences.
Rule of Hospitality. To invite someone into your home is a precious gift that should be reciprocated with a host gift upon arrival. Host should protect and see to the comfort of guests while guests should respect their host and the host’s household
