Karador

The shining city of Karador [KAR-a-DOR] stands as the only known bastion of leShay on Toril—the last scions of the once great progenitor race of the eladrin. Only a handful of leShay survive, rarely leaving the protective wards and comforts of their shimmering city on the lake.

Population

2,700. Karador is primarily populated by eladrin, llewyrr elves, and all manner of fey and feytouched. A small number of humans make their home in the city, ambassadors from far away Imaskar or the Moonshae Delegation.

Important Features

Not at all like a sprawling human city built of wood and stone, Karador is vertical, natural and wild. Edifices in Karador are shaped from nature and magic, not constructed as human structures are. Karador is divided into three boroughs:

The Reef. This layer is submerged beneath the surface of the lake. Its paths kept dry by magic and the buildings sealed with crystal windows, allowing breathtaking views of the underwater wonderland of the Myrloch.
The Tidepool. This borough is built at lake level. This district holds the markets, many of the gardens, the many docks, and the city gates. Visitors rarely see more of the city than this district.
The Aerie. Comprised of soaring towers that spiral high above the rest of the city, the Aerie is home to the leShay and the most powerful of the eladrin.
The Gossamer Span. This seemingly delicate miles-long bridge of crystal and white granite links the city to the southern shore of the Myrloch. The bridge winds around the city, forcing travelers to be exposed to scrutiny or attacks. The bridge was created by the leShay and be unmade by them in defense of the city.

Government

High Lady Ordalf ostensibly rules Karador, but her son and heir Prince Araithe assumes the daily governance of the city. He’s assisted by his niece Lady Siofra, who acts as his ambassador to the Moonshaes. The remaining leShay serve as advisors, yet the populace rarely sees them.

Defenses

Karador and its environs are protected by an unusual mythal. Unlike other arcane wards of its type, Karador’s mythal is infused with the primal power of guardian spirits. If necessary, the sentient mythal can shift the city to and from from the Feywild at will. Even if an invader were to breach the mythal, each leShay therein commands individual arcane power greater than the mightiest elven High Mages.

Temples

No divine temples stand in Karador, though simple shrines dedicated to nature spirits and

archfey exist in abundance, such as Ouroboros the World Serpent, Lurue the Unicorn Queen, Rilkaht of the Infinite Branches, or Sarula Illiene the Nixie Queen.

Fane of Tranquility. A shrine of Eldath, in her guise as a Primal Spirit.
The Orrery. This arcane planetarium acts as a shrine to the Archfey Court of Morwel.

Notable Landmarks

Lady Ordalf’s Palace. The greatest of the spires of the Aerie houses Lady Ordalf’s palace.
Leviathan’s Slumber. Near Karador is the resting place of Leviathan, which is guarded by dragon turtles.
Imaskar Chancery. The Imaskari ambassador maintains an embassy here.
Synnorian Consulate. Embassy of the Synnorian ambassador who represents the Llewyyr and their Serene Matriarch Ate`Niah.

Inns and Taverns

House of Autumn. Visitors to Karador are rare. Those that gain permission to lodge in the city are typically escorted to the House of Autumn; where they are pampered and treated to the many delights the city has to offer.
The Lady’s Iris. The Lady’s Iris is a popular wine garden that will serve non-fey.
